VISIT BY THE COUNTY ASSEMBLY OF ISIOLO COMMITTEE ON AGRICULTURE, LIVESTOCK, FISHERIES AND SPECIAL PROGRAMMES.

Kenya Meat Commission (K.M.C) Athi River Headquarters welcomed members of the Isiolo county assembly.

The Managing Commissioner, Brigadier James N. Githaga led the Management team in apprising the committee on KMC’s operations capabilities, range of meat & meat products processed at the plant and identified areas of partnerships.

The Isiolo committee were seeking to bench mark from a renowned abattoir such as KMC so as to learn what they could replicate on a similar project in their county.

Isiolo county is one of the ASALs counties that relies on livestock as one of their main economic activities. The county is privileged to be destined to house an abattoir in Northern Kenya which is almost ready for operations in the second quarter of 2023.

The committee were taken on a guided factory tour so as to elaborately learn on all the plant’s processes and have the real time experience of the manufacturing process for meat and meat products.

The committee who were led by Hon. Ewoton Lorot Nicholas discharges it’s roles on all matters relating to agriculture, including crop and animal husbandry, livestock sale yards, county abattoirs, plant and animal disease control, veterinary services, (excluding regulation of the profession) animal control and welfare, including licensing of dogs and facilities of accommodation, care and burial of animals and fisheries.

KMC’s Vision is to be a Preferred world class processor of quality meat and meat products. All efforts are being put daily by all our stakeholders, to ensure that this goal is achieved.
