Kenya Meat Commission at Athi River headquarters led by the Managing Commissioner Brigadier James N Githaga and Colonel Rajab Omari had the privilege to host delegates from Samburu County who were led by the CECM Agriculture, Mr Elly Loldepe at the County Assembly with the aim of benchmarking on running of an abattoir.
Implementation and operationalization of an articulate HACCP system in any food plant requires country stability, operational and strong regulatory authorities, steady and expanding markets and very minimal turnover of trained abattoir personnel [5]. Wamalwa et al., 2011 has shown that training and capacity building have had a great impact on reducing meat contamination during production.
The delegates were briefed on all the achievements made which include turning around the plant’s slaughtering capacity and expansion of market share. They were later taken on a guided factory tour so as to elaborately learn on all the plant’s processes, modern machinery, equipment & technilogy besides having the real time experience of the manufacturing processes for meat and meat products.
